My Favorite Ramen And Last SOL(SOL #16)

 This week is almost over.
In this issue of SOL, I would like to talk about a ramen restaurant that I visited with a friend the day before yesterday.

The other day, I visited Ippudo in Shichikuyama, Niigata. The reason we went to eat at the restaurant was that my friend and I happened to be taking the same course in the second semester. That lecture ended last weekend. As the end approached, my friend was struggling with many assignments. I was good at the subject, so we worked together to complete the assignments. As a thank you, he bought me a drink.

Since it was a special occasion, I took him up on his offer and ordered something a little more luxurious. Normally it would have been too expensive for me, but it was very tasty!

Last but not least, thank you for your hard work in this Wednesday's class. This is the end of the CLIL class; with it, this will be the last time for SOL activities. Thanks again for reading and dropping me a comment!

I hope to see you again when we have a chance to be together in another class!

Sunday's Examination Of Eiken(SOL #15)

This week is almost over. Now, in this issue of SOL, I would like to write about the English test I took last Sunday.
The Eiken was held at the Niigata University of Management last Sunday, and frankly speaking, I was extremely nervous. Even though I usually get close to 80% correct answers in past practice tests, I was taken in by the unique atmosphere created by the real test environment.

Then, when the exam began, the first 25 vocabulary choice questions presented many more difficult words than I had imagined. I also looked through the long-answer questions, but the difficulty level of the subject matter was so high that I found it difficult to understand the content of many of the questions even though I read them carefully sentence by sentence, and I answered them with little understanding. And then there is listening, which is the devil's gate. Although there were a few questions in which I was able to clearly capture the intention, I answered most of them in a hazy manner.

As a result, my score was

Reading: 31/41

Listening: 19/29

Writing: It would be too complicated to grade myself, so I will omit it this time.

I don't know if I can pass the first exam with this score, but I will do my best since there should also be a second exam.

How To Make Origami(UP2)

Have you made anything with origami "recently"? I am going to write about my occasional hobbies. Before that, what are your recent hobbies? For example, is it surfing the Internet or playing smartphone games? In addition to the remarkable development of information technology in recent years, many things can now be completed on a computer or smartphone. In this context, I am most interested in origami. I have been doing this hobby for quite a long time, and looking back as I write this, there are many things about origami that I have never felt before.
It was in junior high school that I first realized the power and properties of origami. I was living a smartphone-centered life until I realized those kinds of attractions. One day, I was studying for a high school entrance exam and felt tired. Then, for the first time in a long time, I tried to refresh myself by innocently making my best folds with origami. It was just a refreshing change of pace. But then I became obsessed with the charm of origami! What is the charm? I will introduce it later!

Arrangement
All you need is a sheet of origami paper.

How to make

  1. Fold the origami paper into a triangle twice and make a crease. After making folds, open the origami paper.

  2. Fold the triangle toward the center line. Fold the left tip of the triangle toward the fold attached to the center.

  3. Open the folded paper and crush it with a new fold so that the folds overlap.

  4. When you have finished folding twice, open it once.

  5. Fold the small triangle at the very end inward.

  6. Do the same process as 3 again.
  7. Finally, make 4 participles and you are done! This is camellia!!!

When making the crease, fold it neatly into a triangle. Otherwise, it will not look good when completed. To do this well when making this origami, do this at step 1. Another trick is to try folding the tip just a little bit to get it in if it does not fit well when folding it in again in step 6.

What I have just described is just one example of how to fold origami. What I am trying to say in this text is that the power of origami is much greater than you may think. It was mentioned on the Hoikushi Know-How website that origami can generally cultivate five powers.

  • to develop finger dexterity
  • to develop concentration and perseverance
  • cultivate imagination
  • to develop the ability to follow procedures
  • develop the ability to accomplish tasks
These are just a few examples.

Many people may think that origami is more for young children. However, some of the above items should also apply to those who think that they may not be good at this field. As mentioned at the beginning of this article, people these days seem to be living comfortably with the benefits of IT on a daily basis. While there have been great advances, many people may have lost their ability to concentrate and persevere. Many people these days cannot concentrate and study even for one hour, which is said to be the limit of human concentration. To overcome this, there are short-term intensive learning methods such as studying for 25 minutes and taking a 5-minute break. Actually, I was the same way, but I believe that by improving concentration through origami and breaking away from short-term intensive learning methods, we can concentrate for longer periods of time and form a mind that does not give up easily.
Rather than shying away from origami because it is something for small children to play with, I believe that there are things that can be regained by trying folding again.

Only A Few Days!!!!!(SOL #14)

Hello, I just started this week.

This week I am going to talk about Eiken. In the meantime, there's less than a week left until the Eiken! I am surprised even now as I write this. When I think about what I can do with only one week left, it is only past examinations. I'm very nervous, so I'm going to do lots of practice so that I can do my best in the real test and gain confidence!

It seems like it was a long time, but it felt like it happened so fast, and I will do my best so that I will not have any regrets until the very end!

 Thank you for reading!!!!!

Seeing Movie(SOL #13)

Good evening. This week has been ended soon.

The other day after my lecture I saw the movie "Kamen Rider Geets x Revise MOVIE Battle Royale". As a fan of Kamen Rider for more than 10 years, I found it very interesting and satisfying.

This movie has a very irregular form. To put it briefly, it is a story where the characters from the former film fight together after the conclusion of the latter film is shown. The ending of the revisited work from the TV series was also very moving, and the crossover part was also very interesting to watch.

This SOL was the most difficult to write about. Perhaps some of you reading this are the kind of "otaku" who are passionate about something! I'm sure I'd be called a nerd by those around me as well, but I consider it very nice to like one thing or another! What do you think about "otaku"?

 Thank yor for reading!!

Hatsumoude(SOL #12)

Good evening. This week has been ended soon.

In this time, I will talk about my first shrine visit of New Year.
This year I went to Yahiko Shrine for the first time for Hatsumode. I visited the shrine on January 3, two days after New Year's Day. I thought there would be fewer people there than on New Year's Day, but I was surprised to see so many visitors on that day.

When I passed through the torii gate of Yahiko Shrine, I felt very solemn. When it was my turn to pray, I was not sure which one to choose because I wanted to ask for many things this year. Among them, I prayed for many students at the cram school where I work part-time to pass the entrance examinations safely. In addition, I also prayed for my own success in passing the Eiken Pre-1 test.

After visiting the shrine, I was visiting with a friend who had returned to his hometown, and we drew a fortune just once to see if we would both have good luck this year. The result was... Daikichi!

How was your fortune this year?

 Sincerely,
 Aizawa Yu.

Christmas Day(SOL #11)

Good mornig! Today is the end of the second semester of classes before winter break.

This time, I want to talk about my Christmas Day.
On December 23th, I went to Toyama Prefecture. The weather was forecast to be stormy this Christmas. As a result, it became very rough before Christmas, and when I left, the Shin-Etsu Line stopped between Nagaoka and Kashiwazaki, making it impossible to get to Toyama on the limited express. I wondered whether to go or not. So I thought of a route from Tsubame-Sanjo station to Toyama via Takasaki station on the Joetsu Shinkansen. Although the price of the Shinkansen was a little expensive, I enjoyed the opportunity to go to Takasaki, which I would not normally have the chance to visit, and to take the Asama train, which happened to be a type of Hokuriku Shinkansen, and also via Nagano. As a result, I am glad to have arrived in Toyama safely.

On December 24th, I enjoyed Christmas Eve with my friends. We had the standard Christmas fare of chicken, pizza, and cake. My friend is not fond of fruits and cannot eat whole size shortcakes, so we had a green tea cake. I used to eat whole size shortcakes for Christmas, so this was my first chance to eat a matcha cake. Even though it was a cake, it was not only sweet but also had a strong bitter taste. We also exchanged Christmas gifts with each other. I received this scarf and a wallet. I was very happy to see that they were very thoughtful gifts.

In addition, Hearing that the Christmas-only light-up event was being held, I visited Toyama's famous KANSUI PARK. I was thrilled by the illumination, which was much more vivid than I had seen on the Internet. It was a limited time, but it turned out to be a very fulfilling Christmas.

If any of you are from Toyama, I'd love to know where else it's famous for!

 Thank you for reading!!

Winter Landscape(SOL #10)

Good morning. The week has just begun!!

The amount of snowfall since the day before yesterday was amazing. I commute to school by train, so I lost my only way to school due to the shutdown, so I had to stay home more often.
Yesterday I had some free time, so I went outside for a while. Then I found this beautiful snow scene. Whenever I see such a scene, I am glad that I was born in Niigata, a snowy prefecture.

If you are from outside of the prefecture, what was it like to see snow in Niigata Prefecture?

Finish The Hardest Assignment Of Second Semester(SOL #9)

Today is Monday when I write this SOL. I want to talk about the hardest assignment.

Before we start talking, how is everyone progressing with their assignments? To tell you the truth, I just finished my assignment today. As you all know, the longer you leave this assignment, the harder it gets. So I am relieved that I finished it quickly.

Our class limit is 120,000 words, which is 20,000 more than last semester, so it was very tough. However, as a new trial for the second semester, we actively read stories over 10,000 words. Surprisingly, stories with higher word counts were easier to quiz and more easily earned than stories with lower word counts. If anyone hasn't finished yet, I recommend reading stories with higher word counts, even though they may be harder to read in the beginning.

My goal for the second semester is to reach the 200,000 words I didn't reach last semester!

 Thank you for reading!

My Cherishing Thing For A Long Time(UP 1)

My artifact is a paper-knife that is made of stainless. Its color is mainly silver. The size is about a mechanical pencil. It cannot cut something like fruits, vegetables, and so on. The purpose of using a paper knife is to cut something like paper. For instance, we can cut the top of the envelope parallelly and clearly. Owing to this knife, important documents for you can be protected.

The first time I met my artifact was in April 2014. In March 2014, the history of the elementary school named “Minami-Shogakko”, which I went to from grade 1 to grade 4 ended. However this is the way that is united with neighborhood elementary schools together. In order to build and prepare a newly integrated school, my school had to transfer some necessary functions to the new school.

After finishing the transfer, the empty school was renovated and started as a new facility named “Sanjo Manufacturing School”.  The facility is now using the past classrooms as offices for many companies mainly local. There remains a blackboard in some offices now.

Of course, the opening ceremony had been held in 2014. In celebration of the opening ceremony, some events were done. Among them, I encountered the experience event of making a handmade paper knife.

To tell the truth, I did not find this event at first. My mother found and said

“There were some events you thought you would probably want to take part in. Did you want to participate in?”

At first, I was not interested in these events. So I said

“I was reluctant to do this because I was poor at making something. But, if I was able to participate, I wanted to try.”

However, once I took part in the experience event of making handmade paper knife by myself, I was absorbed in the attraction of making our own. In the event, the person who worked and held this event showed me the another one which is made by creators, I was amazed by the beautiful silver body and sharply. Compare to me, my handmade one was not sharp, beautiful color and like cheap. So I was not so much fun. But, my parents and I have thought this paper knife as cherishing one, not a mere one. Furthermore, there is another reason why I cherish the fact that my name is engraved on it to commemorate the creation of the piece. That's why we have been using it for 8 years. For me, it is very convenient, precious and reminds me of that day.

So, it is good to make something by ourselves. The reason why I observe is that maybe it is just that Sanjo City thrives on manufacturing, from this experience, I could learn the importance of 3R. This activity to make a paper knife is similar to reducing. For example reducing, what we have without leaving any leftovers, buying only what we can eat, and cooking only what we can eat. In addition, we refrain from using disposable products and use refillable products. Thanks for this thought, not only I but also everyone will be able to refrain from buying something extra. And, we might grow feeling that we treat these more carefully regardless of handmade or produced things.

That's saying the most forgettable thing I want to convey is that we live in a future that has limited resources. For living, it is too significant to use the ones well.

Meeting My Friend On Friday(SOL #8)

Hello, everyone. This week has been ended soon.

Luckily, I didn't have an hour of class today. So I was going to stay home for the day and rest. However, I had an earlier appointment to have lunch with a friend who attends another college. So I took the train to Niigata as usual. Since my friend's university is in the opposite direction of my own university, I took the Echigo Line for the first time in a long time since I went there to take an entrance examination. I enjoyed the view along the Echigo Line from the train because I was not as nervous as when I took the exam.

This is the ramen and bowl of rice with food on top at Mihamaya.

I met my friend for the first time since my part-time job last week, so we had a great time talking. When we were making plans, my friend asked me to buy her a bowl of ramen to celebrate his starting to live alone this winter. So I bought him a bowl of ramen. I went to his recommended ramen restaurant for the first time. The ramen was a bit large, probably due to the proximity of the university and the large number of students who visit the restaurant. The ramen I had for the first time at the restaurant was very delicious. I would like to visit there again if I have a chance. In addition, I encourage him to live on his own!

My New Purpose(SOL #6)

Hello, everyone. This week has started since yesterday.

Today, I want to talk about my new “challenge”. Through some English classes, I have notice that my abilities of English is decreasing little by little more than I was a high school student, especially a examiee. I am very disappointed. While I take class, I am not able to remind any words which I had already known sometimes. That's why I am struggling new “challenge” now. This is ... Eiken Grade pre-1
Thanks for the study in the high school days, I remember almost words and grammars when I open vocabulary and grammar textbooks. Now, I am not so bothered. However, the progress of them is a little late than I think. So I do my best !!
For starting the past examinations about 10~20 times, I continue to repeat these textbooks many times. And I will pass the test the first time definitely!!

This is my textbooks.

If you got a licence of Eiken Grade pre-1, I would want some advices from you. Please.

My Lunch(SOL #5)

Hello, everyone. This week has been ended soon.

Today, I want to introduce lunch on Friday. I only to have taken the 1st class named the lecture of  P.E. because the 2nd class named Lecture for Academic Skills Ⅱ was not held. When I took this class, my friend sitting next to me asked that do you want to eat ramen after that?  At first, I was annoyed. The reason why I was bothered is that I established my own rule, ‟I eat noodle once a month!” However thank you for his  invitation, I wanted to reject. So, I went. There is Ramen-Ittouya. I have not gone and eaten there. And, since I'm from Sanjo City, Sanjo is famous for Seabura-Shoyu Ramen, I used to eat normal ramen rarely.

I could not imagine until I ate. But when I started eating, it was very delicious and I felt that the Niboshi-soup is too intense. While I ate, I forgot the thought which is existed before I ate. Once I ate, I was absorbed this !! If you had a chance, I would recommend.

My Trips For Toyama Prefecture(SOL #4)

Hello, everyone. This week has been ended soon.

This is the picture at Toyama Station

I will talk about my trip. I went to Toyama prefecture to see my friend last Thursday to Sunday. The reason why I write this is that I had written and posted SOL#3 assignment on last Wednesday.

On Thursday, when I prepared my baggage, I was worried about delaying train too much because of missile effects. So I must have missed a limited-express. To arrive there early, I must have taken local-line named Shinetsu-Line bound for Naoetsu and Myoko-Haneuma Line bound for Myoko Kogen. Of course, I was exhausted more than summer vacation. However, when I took the Shinetsu-Line, I met an old woman. We chatted about an hour. It got exciting, especially topic of trip. From her story, she went to Nishi-Shibata on last Tuesday to see fireworks. Of course, I talked about my university. She has already known my university and  I was cheered my university life. At first I was shocked that I wasted the charge of limited-express. But, through meeting the woman and seeing beautiful landscape, I enjoyed the satisfied time!!

On Friday, my friend and I went to the library at TOYAMA GLASS ART MUSEUM to study. My purpose was to progress Xreading. As soon as I arrived there, I was amazed the landscape of it. It was too beautiful! If you had a chance, you should visit!! Let's get back the topic. Before we started studying, we ate parfait which looks nice and fashionable in the cafe at museum. Look under the picture. The parfait was used a lot of wheat-gluten snack. And the parfait was included coffee jelly. I have not ever eaten coffee jelly since I was junior because I have thought that it was too bitter as matcha. However, once I ate, it was very delicious and sweet!Coffee jelly seems to be absorbed in as matcha sweets.

The parfait

On Saturday, we suddenly wanted to do nothing in her home. Although we wanted to eat something. So we decided to cook together. During Thursday to Sunday, I wanted to cook to convey grateful to stay with me. However, I was worried that I have not experiences of cooking at all. Actually, when we start cooking, I enjoyed! After I finished cooking and eating, I was satisfied.  The dishes which were beef stew and cod meuniere were more delicious than I imaged.

Yakiniku(SOL #3)

Hello, everyone. This week has been ended soon.

On Wednesday, I ate “yakiniku” for dinner with my friend, who has known since we were junior high school students. I'm happy to eat something with him because he caught a cold and had been staying home.
We went to ‟yakiniku tabehodai-ZAO” where is floor above Don Quijote near Niigata station. At first, we did not image the quality of meats and dishes at all because we usually went other shops and we went there for the first time. In addition, I have not eaten since my birthday(9/9). When we started eating, we felt that the taste was very delicious.  If we had more opportunities, we would probably go repeatedly. Of course, our talking was too exciting! We had a good time!

This Hard Week & Getting Driver's Licence(SOL #2)

 Hello, everyone.

This week has been ended soon. I want to share you this hard week and glad things.

If you belonged to faculty of regional development studies called “Kokusai-chiiki Gakubu”, you might think that  there are a lot of assignments of Lecture for Academic Skills A class, English Fluency B class, Local Production and Local Consumption of Niigata Prefecture and Date Science Literacy this week. At first I hear this, I was amazed!! Every day, I had been finished these little by little. Thanks for this, on Tuesday, I finished

Ahh!!! I noticed!!! I forget to do Xreading. It is a little hard. I had finished reading about 33,000 words until now. However, I need to read about 87,000 words. It is also a little hard. And CLIL's assignments.

And I tried the test of driver's license on Friday. Though I prepared to pass one easily, today's test was much difficult that I have practiced. But I somehow got!! Since I had commuted a drivers' school for summer vacation, the incidence made me very happy and grateful for teachers

My Part-Time Job & Special Lunch(SOL #1)

 Hello, everyone

This week will be ended soon. I will talk about my daily part-time job and October 21st 's special lunch.

I assigned 4 times(Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday), especially the late hour on 19 o'clock to 22 o'clock. The reason why I worked much is that other co-workers are too busy. Fortunately, I only much time and I can get working opportunities very much! This makes me too tired! However, through I touch the cram school students, this reminds me of the days when I was a high school student.

This is my cram school. Basically, our school students study themselves. If they had any questions, they would ask cram school teachers.

Yesterday(10/20), I was asked the questions about math and basic-physics. Because I was not touched the studying contents of high school for a long time, I felt a little difficult. Finally, I solved these somehow.

Today(10/21), I ate special lunch. It is..... noodle and fried rice named ‟Ra-Chan”. On April to August, I sometimes went and ate noodle afterschool. But, I have wanted to stay fit recently. So, I established my own rule. This is..... ‟I eat noodle once a month!” Thanks for this rule, the time when I eat one is more delicious that I have ever. If you are interested in, try!

 Today's menu! Seabura-niboshi Ramen and Seabura Cha-Han

Self-Introduction About Aizawa Yu

Hello! My name is Aizawa Yu. I will introduce about myself briefly.

I was born and raised in Sanjo City, Niigata prefecture. Once you heard Sanjo, what do you image? Sanjo is famous for ''The city of hardware''. The history of it has continued since Edo period! It is amazing! There are many types of hardware. For example, kitchen knives, Japanese nails called ''Wakugi'', folks, spoons and so on. they are very popular from foreign consumer. They said that the items made from Japan is good quality! Not only hardware but also food is famous.

Do you know ''Niigata Big Five Ramen''? Sanjo has one. It is called ''Curry Ramen''. It is spicy and delicious. There are two types of curry ramen. One is simple. Curry on Ramen. The other is ramen soup and curry mixed. I should recommend two!

After I entered this university, I have not belonged to any extra activities yet. However, I worked at cram school which is across high school I went to and I was a student. Of course, I taught high school students mainly. The subjects taught by me are Japanese, Math, social studies, especially geography and politics and economies, basic-science, especially physics and chemistry, and English. Sometimes I felt that the contents of high school's were difficult. Every time, I have responsibility because there are a lot of examinees' future.

On the other hand, I share my memory. I went to Toyama prefecture during university summer vacation. I had been to there twice. The nature of Toyama is too beautiful. For instance, Kansui-Park. There has a big fountain and grass! At first I visited there, I was surprised and relaxed. I napped.  In addition, I ate delicious dishes.

The true purpose of going Toyama Prefecture is to see my friend.

The landscape from limited-express named ''Shirayuki'' The day was fine!
